Full-day Forum (9:30-3:30 PM)
Water Industry Reliability Forum – Building Resilience in Water Utilities
Resilience is about ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable water services despite aging assets, workforce transitions, regulatory pressures, and increasing risks. Each session will address a key dimension of this challenge and highlight practical approaches for preparing for the future.
Session 1: Transforming Asset Data Management Through a Standardized Asset Hierarchy at IRWD by Verowin Hunting, Irvine Ranch Water District and Logan Cowley, MaxGrip
Much of the infrastructure is decades old, leading to frequent breakdowns and high maintenance costs. This workshop will explore approaches for extending asset lifecycles, prioritizing replacements, and justifying upgrades when funding is limited.
Session 2: You can't fix everything: using asset criticality to tackle aging water infrastructure by Ghitte Neethling and Alex Lemuz, MaxGrip
Much of the US water infrastructure is aging, while budgets and resources remain tight. This session shows how utilities can use asset criticality—combining risk, consequence of failure, and existing condition data—to decide where to act first and justify smarter, risk‑based investments.
Session 3: Workforce Transitions and Knowledge Retention by Ghitte Neethling and Alex Lemuz, MaxGrip
With many experienced staff retiring, utilities risk losing critical knowledge while struggling to recruit and train the next generation. This session will share practices for building a skilled workforce, leveraging digital tools for knowledge capture, and preparing teams for long-term change.
Session 4: Modernization and Investment: Making the Right Case by Lisa Kamphuis and Alex Lemuz, MaxGrip
Public utilities operate under tight financial scrutiny. This session highlights how selecting and implementing the right EAM/CMMS can strengthen the business case for modernization. By integrating financial and operational data, utilities can demonstrate ROI, optimize budgets, and align investments with long-term resilience goals.
Closing Panel Discussion moderated by Bob Francis, Reliabilityweb with panelists from the water industry
The Water Industry Reliability Forum concludes with a closing panel session moderated by Reliabilityweb's Research and Strategy Leader Bob Francis.
